LED profile lights are widely used in stage, show, theater, wedding, studio room and so on. Therefore, when people ask what is the control method of the LED Profile Spotlight? For most people the first thought will be DMX512 control system, while what's DMX 512, how it work? Beside this method, is there any other way?

DMX512 is a standard for digital communication networks that are commonly used to control stage lighting and effects. It was originally intended as a standardized method for controlling light dimmers, which, prior to DMX512, had employed various incompatible proprietary protocols. In 1998 the Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA) began a revision process to develop the standard as an ANSI standard. The resulting revised standard, known officially as "Entertainment Technology—USITT DMX512-A—Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories", was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in November 2004. It was revised again in 2008, and is the current standard known as "E1.11 – 2008, USITT DMX512-A", or just "DMX512-A". Then DMX512 soon became the primary method for linking controllers (such as a lighting console) to dimmers and special effects devices such as fog machines and intelligent lights. DMX has also expanded to uses in non-theatrical interior and architectural lighting, at scales ranging from strings of Christmas lights to electronic billboards and stadium or arena concerts. DMX can now be used to control almost anything, reflecting its popularity in theaters and venues.

Generally speaking, DMX is a unidirectional protocol which means that the data flows in one direction – from the control desk to the lights. For example in a theater project, after well connected all led profile lights via signal cable, lighting engineer can just sit in the control room, based on different lighting needs to control the lights, but no need to climb into the high, very convenient and save many troubles. Of course, there are one premise have to satisfy, that is all these led profile lights should install DMX512 control system. So far, THE ONE STUDIO's all led profile lights are satisfied DMX controlled. By the way, if you just need some small led profile lights to decorate or focus on a point, like in small museum or gallery for lighting, but don't request for DMX controller adjust,  we have 20w led mini profile with remote control for your option.

Meanwhile, with the development of DMX512, wireless DMX512 adapters have become popular as well, especially in architectural lighting installations where cable lengths can be prohibitively long. Such networks typically employ a wireless transmitter at the controller, with strategically placed receivers near the fixtures to convert the wireless signal back to conventional DMX512 wired network signals or wireless receivers built into the individual fixtures. After reading above details of DMX512, this control system seems very great without any shortcoming, however,if you pay attention to it's working theory, you will find that due to this protocol is just unidirectional, if led profile light fixtures occur faults, how they reflect to the controller so that the user can find out the questions in time?

Next time, let us discuss the other control method- RDM- Remote Device Management.
